The CVUUF Community Forum is an ongoing series of speakers, films and socially relevant entertainment events. Our aim is to organize and present public programs that inform, inspire and delight our community.
Our mission is to promote awareness of the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship as a beacon of liberal religion, tolerance, equity, compassion, respect for nature and human rights in the Conejo Valley and the surrounding areas.

Momentum for bail reform is gaining steam both here in California and throughout the country for one simple reason: the current system isn’t working. We know that communities are safer and healthier when they are whole, but money bail is tearing them apart. We know that even just a few days in jail can lead to someone losing their job, losing child custody, and being evicted, yet people are being held in jail for days, weeks, and even months while awaiting trial. We also know that the current system isn’t serving it’s intended purpose of protecting communities and ensuring that people come to court, and that there are more effective and equitable alternatives out there.
Please join us to learn more about current bail practices and our efforts to build a system that works for everyone, not just the wealthy.
Presenters are Jessica Farris, ACLU of Southern California and BEND THE ARC, a Jewish Partnership for Justice.
Free event but donations are gratefully accepted.
2018-01-13, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm (Saturday, January 13)
Join us January 13, 2018 at 7 pm at CVUUF for a presentation by immigration attorney Rafael Torres on:
- Current immigration news and developments
- Common solutions to various immigration issues and
- Know-Your-Rights (basic rights that are available to all people, regardless of immigration status).
A panel discussion and Q&A will follow.
Rafael Torres III is an attorney at Reeves Miller Zhang & Diza. He represents clients before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Executive Office for Immigration Review (Immigration Trial Court) throughout the United States. He has successfully represented clients in family-based applications for permanent resident status, naturalizations, humanitarian parole, U-Visa Petitions, and asylum-based applications. Attorney Torres has also been successful in defending against deportation, securing dismissal of cases based on the exercise of Prosecutorial Discretion by the Department of Homeland Security, as well as repeated success in reopening clients’ prior cases where they had been previously ordered deported.
2017-10-21, 9:30 am - 4:00 pm (Saturday, October 21)
Saturday, October 21st 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at CVUUF
In today’s charged and dangerous political climate, fundamental human rights are under attack. This workshop will highlight specific and practical ways to bring yourself, your organization, or your congregation into this urgent work. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to learn from Rev. Kathleen McTigue, the Director of the UU College of Social Justice and a founder of Love Resists. In her words, we’ll learn to “see more clearly what we face, imagine more boldly the ways we can act, and live our values more radically and courageously on the side of justice.”
9:30 a.m.- coffee and gathering with workshop to begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.
LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED
