“Queen of The Sun: What Are Bees Telling Us?”

Güneş-Kraliçesi

In 2006 newspapers began reporting on an unnerving phenomenon: honeybees around the world are disappearing.  Nationwide beekeepers have noticed a 30-90% loss of their bee colonies due to a mysterious occurrence known as Colony Collapse Disorder.  Thought to be caused by a combination of factors including pesticide exposure, invasive mites, inadequate food supply and a virus that targets bee’s immune systems, Colony Collapse Disorder is causing a global bee crises.

Taggart Siegel’s Queen of The Sun is an engaging film that takes an in depth look at the life of a honeybee colony and follows beekeepers and scientists in their struggle to save bees in natural and holistic ways.  The film offers insight into the problems and solutions of this bee crisis.

The film will be followed by a discussion with bee expert, entomologist Anna Howell, UC Ventura County Cooperative Extension staff research associate.
